Briefly describe your neigh hoodI

I am who I am because of the neighborhood I live or
I am who I am despite the neighborhood I live
I grew up in Fairfield, CA, in a suburban neighborhood. I remember the neighborhood was newly developed and all the homes there were brand new. It was very quiet with not much to do. I attended school nearby, which was in walking distance from my house because there wasn’t much to do. I played a lot of sports to keep busy. There weren’t many kids in the neighborhood because people were still in the process of moving in. Once the neighborhood was completed, there were tons of families with kids, which made the neighborhood complete and fun. I would say that both statements fit me because I believe that living in the suburbs shaped me because I wasn’t exposed to certain life experiences such as gang activity, drugs or theft.  I believe I am who I am despite my neighborhood because at a certain point I started making my own decisions, and life experiences helped shape who I have become. So yes, I am who I am despite my neighborhood. I know a lot of family members as well as friends who let their neighborhoods shape who they became. They got involved in negative activities because it was a part of their neighborhood. They also let their neighborhoods shape them and mold their behavior into the people they are. I believe that it is possible to get negatively influenced by your surroundings. People become a product of society so despite who they wanted to become in life, they all have life circumstances to shape who they were.
