Today I was asked a question .

The question was what would you tell a person about your high school?  I would tell them I went to Vanden High school. Vanden is located on the border of Fairfield and Vacaville. I would commend the school for their academic achievement as well, as the educational program they offer the student. They have amazing after school programs and dedicated teachers. I would go so far as to say, in my opinion, if you were to send your child to a school in that district, it should be Vanden . I would suggest they refer to the website of the top ranked school in that district, and there they would find Vanden .When I went Vanden high for my freshman, sophomore years. Initially when I started the school,  I thought it was cool because my older sister went there. They also had a really great football team; the whole school would come and watch their games. (Go Vikings!)The school atmosphere was visually really pleasant everybody knew everybody. There were various clubs around campus holding a variety of events for students to get involved in.The teachers were always very helpful. The principal was very attractive and all the young ladies loved him. He was very personable- you could talk to him about anything. I loved spirit week, when each grade would battle it out for the top prize. Seniors would always win, and I believe it was because it was their last year. We also had a float contest to see who could make the best floats. But what I loved the most was at the end of the year, we got to burn our books. Everyone loved doing this because they made it a really big deal.

My Dialect

The people that most influence my speech would be my parents because I was around them most of the time. My language developed especially when I stared school, my friends started to influence my speech, being around your peers for 8 hours, a day. We affected each other’s speech. Learning new words from different people, being in different settings you change your speech to fit that environment. I believe that you change your speech to fit the different type of setting you are in. For example, I know that I would not use the same speech I use with friends if I was at work. The type of speech I use with friends is adaptable, being around them I don’t even notice that I use certain words that I do. I don’t know my language even changed, unless someone pointed it out to me. If I was at work I would be more mindful of how I speak, I definitely my language from watch what I say. Your surroundings shape your language from birth when your parents teach you words. From watching television seeing how others interact. Simply through life experiences you learn how to tweak your language to fit the proper environment. It’s all about being adaptable to your surroundings. Being in America most of us speak English. But within the English language there are different dialects. People use the language and make it their own.
